My Priorities

Matthew Patrick for Wirral West

Cost of Living

Under the Conservatives it has become harder and harder for families to make ends meet. The crisis has been felt particularly in the last year since the economic crash caused by the reckless Conservative Budget. But for many families it has been going on for years as government cuts and low pay have led to a stagnating economy. I know how much families and business are struggling across the Wirral and ending this crisis is my top priority.

Our NHS

The Wirral is home to some of the best specialist NHS hospitals in the country, but its brilliant staff are struggling amidst an underfunded service which has been repeatedly let down by the last 14 years of Tory Governments.

Our Green Spaces

The Wirral’s green spaces and our beautiful beaches are what makes this such a wonderful place to live. I am committed to protecting our environment and I wholeheartedly support the Council’s local plan to build new housing on Brownfield land.

Energy and Climate Change

Over the last few years energy bills have soared due to a lack of investment and planning by successive Tory Governments. We are also facing a Climate Crisis which threatens our environment, and our future. Labour’s plan to create GB Energy, owned by the public, to invest in our collective future and provide clean energy, will bring down bills, invest in our future, and bring an end to our reliance on oil and gas.

The Best Start in Life

Children on the Wirral deserve the best education, opportunities, and start to life whatever their background or circumstances. I will prioritise good quality childcare to help parents, high and rising standards in our schools, and opportunities for developing skills for teenagers and young adults.
